ENGL 3375: Audio Drama
Description:
In the Audio Drama course, you’ll learn how to craft riveting plots, strong dialogue, and unforgettable characters by working with fellow writers to produce an 8-episode podcast. This class will center primarily on your writing, focusing on ways episodic storytelling is used to craft long-form narratives (techniques used in television shows, limited-run series, and movie franchises).
Students will choose the genre in which they’d like to write and be responsible for one episode each. Episodes will be roughly ten minutes. We will end the course by producing a podcast with voice actors, music, and special effects, posting the finished product for download across multiple platforms.
Highlights:
—Discover how techniques for building strong narratives and memorable character transfer to your future career goals and how you present yourself.
—Gain a deeper understanding of storytelling by comparing narrative in multiple forms (prose, film, and audio).
—Discuss how other audio dramas have gone on to form the basis for hit television shows and films.
—Learn proper script format.
—Engage in craft discussion with a strong community of writers to improve your storytelling.
—Produce an entertaining, original drama for the world to listen to and enjoy.
