Mark Stringham
UIW Theatre Arts Professor
What got you into theatre arts?
I was first brought into theatre by my elementary gifted & talented teacher, who saw a child struggling with a broken home and needed a place that fostered love, respect, and empathy. Since then, I’ve strived to foster that kind of environment in our department and rehearsal spaces.
Do you have any projects you’re currently working on?

We are a department that tries to bring the best of theatre to our audiences. Sunset Baby is an iconic playwright and our show is an attempt to show our community her unique perspectives.
What do you hope your audience takes away from this piece?
I hope our audiences are ending the night with deep thoughts, introspective questions, and an appreciation for all of the beauty our department is trying to offer.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with your audience?
Theater is difficult. It’s not something that is given to you; you have to seek it out. You have to fight for the privilege to create theater, especially if your goal isn’t just to do theater, but to do it well. But I’ve learned that those things which I persist in doing become easier; not that the tasks themselves have changed, but that my ability to do increases.
