Characters
Chapter 1
Disturbance
A character needs something; something in their life isn’t quite right. They may even toil to get out of their predicament or ponder possibilities for a solution.
Active characters usually make for a stronger pull to your story, and help create a clear Central Dramatic Question.

Chapter 2
Intimidating Opportunity (Inciting Incident)
Something changes in the character’s circumstance that provides a possible answer—a way out of their shabby life, through the trials they’re facing, or into another’s heart. This can be a real possibility or a false one. The important thing is to note that something has changed, and the character sees a possibility. (The character does not always act on this change, and quite often is resistant to it: in some dramatic structures, you’ll hear this referred to as “The Refusal of the Call.”
